Arkansas House Education Committee Takes a Stand on Teachers' Rights

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas House Education Committee moved to empower the state’s teachers yesterday by passing Senate Bill 473.

Senate Bill 473 protects teachers’ hard-earned paychecks by ending the practice of automatic payroll deduction for union dues. The provision gets Arkansas taxpayers out of the business of union dues collection, ensuring that unions collect dues using their own time and resources.

“Arkansas teachers deserve the freedom to decide for themselves where their hard-earned paychecks go,” said Workers for Opportunity Senior Policy Advisor Vincent Vernuccio. “The government should not be the bills collector for union dues.”

As an advocate for employee freedom in Arkansas and across the country, Workers for Opportunity commends the Arkansas House for its leadership.
